THE RIDE SIDE EXPEDITION SERIES

1 WEEK, 6 NEW SKI RESORTS FOR STRONG RIDERS

AOMORI, TOHOKU

The Aomori Powder Adventure

An off the beaten path powder adventure

The Aomori experience is a fully hosted ski & snowboard tour where we aim to take you off the beaten path and deep into the backcountry of the Tohuku region. Famed for being the ‘snowiest place on earth’ with some of the best off piste runs in Japan – you can expect a unique adventure where we explore the region in search for fresh tracks.

Designed for high intermediate to advanced skiers & snowboarders

While all resorts we visit on this tour will have beginner to intermediate slopes, much of the terrain we aim to show you will involve off-piste trails, tree runs & backcountry terrain. Because of this, we will require all participants to be at least a strong intermediate rider, comfortable turning on black terrain, with some off-piste experience. If you frequent tree runs and powder fields, this trip is designed exactly for you.

Unsure if you meet the standard? Get in touch with us and we’ll be able to advise.

Skip the crowds, get ready for the freshest of lines

Unlike other popular Japanese ski resorts with long lift lines and crowds that track out all good spots within minutes, Aomori’s ‘lack’ of crowds will provide you with a real sense of peace & serenity, with fresh tracks lasting the entire day. This expedition trip is ideal for anyone looking for a new adventure, amazing snow & to experience some of Japan’s lesser known ski resorts.

Expedition Series

Why we created this Expedition Series?

Our dream with The Ride Side is to travel the world – on our board (and skis). To constantly explore the unknown, as we seek for adventure, new experiences and lasting memories.

This expedition series is our first steps towards realising those dreams. We aim to explore new mountains every season and we invite you to be part of our journey. The destinations in this series may not have the hype of the more popular ski resorts but they are hidden gems with their own charm and prestige.

Follow us to destinations beyond the usual, as we search for powder in terrain most can only dream about.

For the explorer & the adventurous soul.

We have an intriguing line-up in store for you. Most of which will be a one-off – and will likely never return to.

This series is not for evereyone. If you have a keen desire to explore the less travelled, we welcome you to join us in this journey and to be a part of our story, untold.

*Skill levels required for each Expedition trip will vary according to the difficulty of terrain at each destination

Each morning, our team will check weather conditions and decide on the ideal ski area for the day, including the highly anticipated day trip out to Hakkoda ski area for a chance to ride amongst the snow monsters in their backcountry.

We will start the week off at Aomori Springs where we’ll get the chance to warm our legs up with winding scenic runs around the resort. For those who are confident, adventurous and keen to explore more, you will also get the chance to venture through the famed backcountry around the region. For these routes, backcountry equipment will be necessary and you will have the option to rent them at the resort. We will guide you through both lift-accessed routes as well as backcountry routes that involve hiking to access.
