That might be the off-piste and tree runs of Myoko's home hills — Ikenotaira, Akakura and Suginohara, home to Japan's longest run — or the powder magnets beyond them: the cult tree lines of Seki Onsen, the steep, deep free-ride terrain of Arai, the famous tree-run network of Madarao, the snowboarder's powder of Charmant Hiuchi, the historic slopes of Nozawa Onsen, and many other local hills most riders never find. The forecast writes the itinerary; we just chase the best snow on the mountain. And it's as much about who you ride with as where.
