Host
The Ride Side runs hosted snowboard and ski trips across Japan, New Zealand and Europe — guests range from first-timers to people chasing pow off the back of the resort. The 2026/27 Japan programme runs across seven locations: Myoko, Arai, Aizu 1, Aizu 2, Sapporo, Appi & Iwate and Tomamu. The Europe Programme runs across 3 locations: LAAX, Livigno and Golden. It's important for you to have read through the trip details on this website to get an understand about the type of trips, camps and dates - these are details you should know before applying for a role with us. You can apply for blocks available, the whole season, or a mix of Japan and Europe dates too.
WHO IS THIS FOR
You can take a group of guests up a mountain and bring all of them back happy, across variable terrain and tree runs too. You’ve done a season with us, done one elsewhere, or come through our trainee track.
WHAT YOU WILL DO ON A DAILY BASIS
- Lead a riding group independently, matched to your level and the terrain
- Own the day-to-day guest experience for your group
- Execute the trip plan set by the Senior and Lead Hosts
- Support and set the example for Trainee Hosts paired with you
- Proactive support for the riding team – spotting what’s needed before you’re asked
- Socialising with guests after the slopes
- Make on-mountain calls: conditions, group ability, when to push and when to stop
- Learn how to read terrain and show guests around according to their skill level
- Work together with the rest of the team to plan the itinerary around the weather conditions for the week
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
- **Track record** — prior hosting experience (with TRS or elsewhere), or promotion from Trainee Host.
- Riding: ⟦minimum standard: e.g. confident off-piste, able to manage a group in variable conditions and low visibility⟧
- Operational initiative and competency: handle rentals, attendance, guest groupings and rooming without being chased or prompted
- Social: guest cohesion, reading a room, noticing the person having a bad day who hasn’t said so – and bringing them into the fold, breaking the ice
- Bonus: riding footage with your application is optional and materially helps
- You don’t need to have hosted before. You do need to ride at a standard we can trust with guests, and you need to be someone people want to be around for two weeks straight, or more.
Able to commit to 3 weeks at minimum
WHAT IS COVERED
- Monthly remuneration, pro-rated to time completed (min. 3 weeks)
- Accommodation for the trip duration (decided by us)
- Lift pass for the trip duration
- Meals, location dependent
- Travel insurance
- Pre-trip training block
- Access to gear deals and team discounts on wax & tune services
- Allowed to use private cars during day offs (decided by lead host)
- All of the above for recce week (prior to guests arriving): Every new team member does a 3–5 day Reccee for pre-trip training and team-building block — the TRS service standard, scenario handling (guest fatigue, cash-flow uncertainty, group splits), riding-group management, and how we actually work together. This is mandatory when selecting your dates, so please factor it in.
WHAT IS *NOT* COVERED
- Flights and train tickets to location (if any)
- Personal equipment
- Personal & meal expenses
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FOR YOUR FOLLOWING SEASON
- Senior Host requires demonstrated **planning ability** across at least one full 5-week block — you can build something and run it, not just execute someone else’s plan — plus judgement about people and the trust of the team you’d be selecting.
- Senior Host pay is negotiated individually rather than banded.
- Progression is assessed in min. of ~5-week blocks; commitment lesser than 5 weeks might mean no promotion for the following season
- Early promotion is authorised by the Lead Host on competence.
HOW TO APPLY
- Application form: pick the track that fits you (new applicant, or experienced host/instructor). Riding footage is *compulsory* if you have never been on a TRS trip/ camp before.
- Expectations call (30 min): what the role actually is, what the pay actually is, what you’re actually after. Either side can say “this isn’t it”, no hard feelings.
- Group interview: a real activity with other candidates and our team. We’re watching how you operate around people, because that’s most of the job. Peer feedback counts.
Selection: the hiring team reviews you against the role and the season’s team balance, with the peer assessment from stage 3 factored in. - Final selection: role, level, location and terms confirmed
- Everyone who applies hears back from us once all rounds are closed: accepted, deferred, or not this season. Where we can be useful, we’ll tell you what would change the answer next time.
PLACEMENT REQUESTS
Placement is decided by us on your level, the location’s difficulty, and team balance. Places are limited by trip capacity and we build teams around level and group balance. State a preference in the application form and we will take that into consideration.
