Myoko Exploration

Exploration is where we chase the storm. Myoko sits under one of the heaviest snowfalls in Japan, and this trip is built to make the most of it — for confident riders who want to go beyond the groomers and deeper into the powder. We don’t lock ourselves to one mountain. With a whole region of resorts within reach, each morning we read the weather and point the day at wherever it’s dumping. That might be the off-piste and tree runs of Myoko’s home hills — Ikenotaira, Akakura and Suginohara, home to Japan’s longest run — or the powder magnets beyond them: the cult tree lines of Seki Onsen, the steep, deep free-ride terrain of Arai, the famous tree-run network of Madarao, the snowboarder’s powder of Charmant Hiuchi, the historic slopes of Nozawa Onsen, and many other local hills most riders never find. The forecast writes the itinerary; we just chase the best snow on the mountain. And it’s as much about who you ride with as where. Everyone here rides strong, so the week is spent with people who’ll push you and keep pace — no holding back, no riding solo. If finding others at your level has always been the hard part back home, this trip fixes exactly that. And if you want a week that challenges you and pushes you to ride at your best, this is the experience for you.

Ride deeper into Myoko with us

In the Exploration Series, you will be with a group of intermediate to advanced snowboarders and skiers venturing beyond the resort’s marked piste terrain – exploring lift-accessed off piste, powder stashes, tree runs and side country only locals know off.

We’re pushing deeper and further out into the Myoko area – with ski resorts in Joetsu, Arai, Seki Onsen, Nozawa Onsen and more being the focus for the week. We’ll start with a warm up at some of our favourite runs in Myoko, before we head out to begin exploring deeper into the Myoko area. Each evening, our team of hosts will check the latest snow and weather conditions to pick the best resort for the next day.

Each week has 5 half day hosted sessions in the morning, and free and easy afternoons, where you get to choose – to continue riding with those game to do more, or to take it easy and get a break.

IMPORTANT: Take note that no lessons are provided for in this experience and you’ll need to be comfortable off piste, powder and trees. If you are not at the skill level required for the terrain, your hosts have the discretion to recommend for you to sit out of the a portion of the itinerary for your safety.

Morning Mountain Orientation

Ride out with your hosts in small groups by skill level. Your hosts will guide you to the best lines for your ability, show you how to get around the slopes safely —and help you level up through the week.

Afternoon Free & Easy

grab lunch, continue riding with new friends, go back to our favorite runs or start apres-ski early – it’s up to you!

Evening

Unwind at Myoko’s local onsens, eat, drink and hang out with the group. If you’re staying at Mountain Lodge, your package includes daily onsen ticket to Landmark Onsen next door. Dinner reservations will also be made each night at our favourite spots in Myoko. Prefer a quiet night in or on a budget? You’ll also have the option to cook and hang out at the lodge instead! We know this is not a boot camp and there’s no need to rush through your holiday, so take some time to yourself with a Free and Easy day in the middle of the week. Ride, eat, be merry – it’s all up to you.

Check Out

Just like that, it’s Saturday again and you’ll be off to your next adventure, on or off the board – but this is not goodbye, it’s see you again! If you’re heading to another location and would like to arrange for Ta-Q-Bin/ Black Cat to do a pick up for your bags, we’ll bring you to the nearest outpost on Friday evening before 6PM.

Accommodation

Myoko Mountain Hut

Myoko Mountain Hut is our home for the week — a private lodge for our group of 24, with no other guests but your trip mates. It’s the kind of place where strangers become trip mates fast, and by day two you’ll know each other a little too well (in the best way). Think hearty dinners after long days on snow, boots drying by the door, late-night debriefs over a drink, and the slow, easy evenings that end up being the part of the trip everyone talks about long after. We might even build our own mini snow park in the back yard. Ride hard, refuel, recharge, repeat.

Rooms & facilities: Choose the room that suits you: a private queen room with ensuite, a twin room, or a spot in the 6-person bunk room. Bathrooms are shared throughout the lodge, with 5 showers and 6 toilets between the group.
