Looking to take your ski or snowboard instructor course to upgrading your skills this winter?
The Ride Side has partnered up with NZSIA to take you to Cardrona this seasons. The New Zealand Snowsports Instructors Alliance (NZSIA) has been training and qualifying NZ Snowsports instructors since it was established in 1971. NZSIA incorporates Ski, Snowboard (SBINZ) Telemark and Adaptive divisions and is recognised internationally for producing professional and knowledgeable instructors able to teach and perform on snow at a high standard.
With consistent fall lines and wide open ski fields, Cardrona Ski Resort is the ideal location for you to get certified as a Level One Instructor.
Ski Level One Certification sessions will cover and assess:
Candidates’ teaching ability and technical understanding are assessed in three teaching presentations during the course. Technical and Teaching theory are assessed by way of an online course.
Exam course Pre-requisites:
To achieve this qualification candidates should be parallel skiers making various turn radii on blue and green terrain.
You must complete the Ski eLearning Level One online course, based on information in the 2017 Ski Instructor’s Manual. You can access the eLearning system through your member profile.

Arrive at Queenstown International Airport (ZQN), gather at the designated meeting point in the airport & our hosts will pick you up from Wanaka to get to the apartments. Check-in, meet the crew for the week and get cosy. For those who require rentals, today’s the day to get fitted before the Welcome Dinner.
We will be briefing the group on Cardrona’s terrain and important things to prepare for your exam week, over a Welcome Dinner in the apartments.
We will head to Cardrona, or Cardie’s as the locals know it. Arguably the most raved about ski resort in NZ,
Use this day to warm up, practice and refine your technique and get orientated with the new mountain surroundings. Practice your turns with feedback from the crew.
During the next couple of nights, expect sessions going through your day’s riding and get tips on how to improve your technique and chances of passing the course.
Dinner will be free and easy.
Your 5-day instructor course with SBINZ /NZSIA begins.
Throughout the next 5 days, you will be taken through the skills you’d need as an instructor with a series of lessons & demonstration exercises.
Use Days 1 & 2 to absorb as much technical and theoratical knowledge as you can from your examiner. Take these 2 days to learn and perfect your form and technique.
Days 3 & 4 are usually the days where you will be assessed on your riding demonstrations. Do your best to impress and show your improvements from the first 2 days.
On day 5, you will take your teaching exam where your instructing ability will be assessed. You will be expected to teach a beginner group with the correct progressions learnt from your instructor manual.
Dinners are free & easy – opt to join the group or stay back in the apartments to cook, it’s up to you!
Before you know it, Saturday would have come again and it’s time to say goodbye. Enjoy your final day in Wanaka, bid farewell to friends new & old and you’ll make your way to your next destination. We will be leaving together on the airport shuttle bus to Queenstown International Airport.
